Kenya is the number three exporter of cut flowers globally and tops the list in Europe. In fact, Kenya’s cut flowers account for 31% of all flower imports in the EU. In the Netherlands, Kenya has a 69% market share where most of the cut flowers are exported to other countries such as Japan and the US after value addition.
Roses account for the majority of the flowers exported to the EU. As the Netherlands dominate the flower market in the world, we have a ready market for the flowers coming from the country. In this regard, the government has put in place measures to ensure that the export of flowers and vegetables runs smoothly. On their part, the government has ensured that we have a special unit in the airport dedicated for flower and vegetable exports only.
